Hello Family!
Sorry, have been very bad blogically lately. Have loved reading about everyone's exploits though.
Anyway, I have a suggestion that may be a bit left-field and out there, but here goes..... how about doing it in the SUMMER instead? That way, we don't have to travel enormous distances to find some warmth...lots of us expat types tend to head that way in the summer anyway and so the costs would be MUCH reduced...and we don't have to risk snowbound airports (all) and flights of many, many hours with small children (some)... also it will be Kev's 50th before the summer and Bev's 70th after the summer...BevKev120...would fit nicely for a celebration....any more? Jamie, you must be 40 soon! (although obviously you don't look it!)
So my suggestion is a villa somewhere beautiful in late July 2012 in the Med with a pool and a beautiful town somewhere nearby. I know it's radical, but...have a think on it! It's almost 24 hours from here to the Caribbean, and would be the same for some of you heading down to Bali or Malaysia so an all inclusive something in Greece or a villa in Corsica - or something - would seem an ideal meeting point. Any thoughts?

Mum, you don't look it, either, by the way.

Portugal input....

Kirsty, see where you are going but both Clare and I can never leave PT in the summer as it is our "high season", it´s one of the few negatives with living and working in a touristy area....!
We were thinking timing wise over Chrimbo and New year as it´s the only time everyone can be off ?
And as to where, there lies the propblem as "chasing the winter sun" is at that time of year very expensive and involves long haul flights normally.
We as a family have shot ourselves in the foot really as we are so well spread, that there is no idea detinantion that suits everyone, Dubai to long for HR, Mexico too long for you etc etc.
I am think speaking to Branson to see if he can bring his moon transporter forward a few years , as that would be relatively the same distance for all !!!!

Love to all... J C and M.

I am swaying though towards an all inclusive somewhere (no cruise?), but WHERE.... Chip over to you !!! LOL

We're talking 2012, Pete, not this year, so you'll be 66 by then!
My suggestion is ...... a lush villa in Portugal, near to J, C, and M (with a heated pool, just in case!). Well, at least we'd all get together - I mean, is it the venue or is it the company?

Well you've gone and done it now!! Opened up a whole can of 'way too many people to please!!' so all I have to say on the matter is

...ANYWHERE EXCEPT FOR KENTUCKY ...

So guess we'll be pretty easy, just have to get the calendars together! Tyler being on a school transfer is not afforded the luxury of 'extra' time off!!

Summer 2012 may be hard to get flights due to the Olympics in London ..... maybe we should do a 'pre120' or '118 and holding' in Summer 2011??
JR's 40th in 2012 too so it would actually be a 'pre160' or '157 and holding!'
As for your pension Dad, by the time you get that it'll do well to buy you a pint at the local so you better add this to the IOU!!!

The reason why we only get together every five years is because it takes us five years to organise ourselves!
Pip is doing his own mini-family moment this summer by visiting the Singapore Slingers. He will also start work/career proper in July and will then have to cope with America's nonsenically limited holiday entitlement (Jamie Fish: I am sure you agree!)
Tim will be working as Camp Counsellor throughout the summer, with no time off for good behaviour, so no chance for him.
One thought to throw in the pot for future consideration: how about a winter ski venue in Canada?
Having further muddied the waters, I will go and dig ourselves out of the latest dump of snow...
